Straight answers on cost, heat, durability, installation, and warranties.
Quality synthetic turf typically lasts 15–20 years depending on use and exposure. All turf installed by Sward Turf Systems comes with a 15-year product warranty and a 2-year workmanship warranty on our installation labor.
Synthetic turf gets warmer than natural grass on peak summer days. Modern turf with quality infill stays significantly cooler than older products. A quick rinse with a garden hose drops surface temperature fast. Most Dallas clients find this a minor tradeoff compared to dead brown natural grass in July–September.
Yes. The turf products we install are lead-free, non-toxic, and independently tested. Our playground systems are ASTM F1292 and ADA compliant for fall height protection. Pet turf is treated with antimicrobial infill and designed to drain completely.
Yes — proper drainage is one of synthetic turf's biggest advantages. We engineer the subbase with adequate slope and a permeable crushed aggregate layer so water drains through and away quickly.
Not with quality product. Today's premium synthetic turf uses multi-tonal blade construction — blending 2–3 shades of green with natural tan thatch fibers — to closely mimic real bermuda or fescue. When properly installed and infilled, most visitors can't tell without touching it.
Residential installs typically run $8–$15 per square foot installed, depending on scope, site conditions, and turf grade. Use our Quote Calculator for a ballpark range, then request a free on-site estimate for an accurate number.
For most clients, yes. The payback period on residential installs is typically 3–6 years when you account for eliminated water bills, lawn care, fertilizer, and weed control. In DFW, where summer irrigation bills run high, the math often works out faster.
Cheap quotes almost always reflect lower-grade turf, minimal base preparation, or faster work that skips critical steps. These installs fail early — poor drainage, visible seams, or turf that mats down within a few years. We compete on quality and longevity, not the lowest price.
Most residential backyard installs are completed in 1–2 days. Mid-size commercial projects typically take 3–5 days. Large playground or multi-zone commercial installs may take 1–2 weeks.
Our process: (1) Site assessment — evaluate drainage, grade, and existing surface. (2) Demo and prep — remove existing material, grade subbase. (3) Base installation — compact crushed aggregate for drainage and stability. (4) Turf installation — cut, seam, and secure turf. (5) Infill and finish — apply infill, brush fibers upright, clean site.
Yes. Rooftop terraces, pool decks, and concrete patios are common applications. On hard surfaces we use a foam or rubber pad underlayment for cushion and comfort.
Minimal maintenance is required. Rinse periodically to remove dust and debris, brush occasionally with a stiff broom to keep fibers upright, and remove debris as needed. For pet turf, rinse more frequently and use an enzyme-based cleaner monthly.
Every installation comes with a 15-year product warranty covering the turf material against UV degradation, excessive fiber wear, and manufacturing defects — and a 2-year workmanship warranty covering installation labor including seams, edges, and base preparation. Both in writing.
The product warranty is voided by intentional damage, fire, or modifications made without our approval. The workmanship warranty does not cover normal wear or damage from improper maintenance.
